Education and Background
Graduating in 1996 from the Master of Social Work program at UW-Milwaukee with a concentration in Marriage & Family Therapy, I am currently licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida. I am additionally certified as an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist through the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy and implement hypnotherapy for specific issues that clients wish to address as well as a complement to psychotherapy at the client’s request.
During my graduate years, I trained under one of the co-founder’s of Solution Focused Therapy, an experience that proved to be invaluable, and provided me with the ability to truly focus in on what a client was trying to accomplish during therapy and help them to succeed in their goals. Having that as a foundation, my treatment style blends and implements research proven treatment modalities and interventions that are conducive to helping my clients develop the skill set to maintain long-lasting change.
I have lived in Sarasota since 2010 and have built my counseling Sarasota practice with the premise that the foundation of a good therapeutic relationship requires that the client feel comfortable and trust the therapist they choose in order to truly benefit from counseling. In turn the client is able to safely and with confidence explore a variety of issues which can help the client identify their authenticate self, and to know their purpose in life which can be essential in maintaining long-lasting, healthy relationships.
My decision to become certified as a clinical hypnotherapist came about as I saw the need for a more mindful based approached to treatment. Clients had reported the inability to quiet their mind from the constant reel of critical thoughts that made it difficult to focus on those things that allowed them derive pleasure out of daily life. In essence, they were not able to practice Mindfulness. Teaching oneself how to relax and refocus through hypnosis and self-hypnosis would foster, strengthen, and reaffirm the practice of mindfulness by allowing ourselves to pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them. In turn, this act of acceptance would in itself encourage and motivate change.
My memberships include the National Association Of Social Workers (NASW), the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), and the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICBCH), and a Certified Member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH).
I am also a Florida Qualified Supervisor for CSW and MFT.
